June 22, 2004 DEC Alumni Golf Tournament DIGITAL ALUMNI GROUP RAISES $76,000 FOR ALS! If you lived in the Greater Boston area during the 70's, 80's or 90's, you knew Digital Equipment Corporation. Fondly known as DEC, you probably had a brother, sister, cousin or friend who proudly wore the Digital badge. DEC emerged from a small office in an old woolen mill in Maynard, MA that employed five people to the second largest computer company in the world. In 1998, DEC was bought out by upstart Compaq Computer in one of the largest corporate mergers in history. There is no more Digital logo, there is no Digital annual report, there is no more 'DEC' symbol on the NYSE but, the spirit of Digital was alive and well on June 7th, 2004. One hundred and seventy golfers, most of them Digital alumni employees, came together to join the fight to find a cure for ALS. The Digital Alumni Association sponsored this ALS awareness and fundraising event to support the Fran Delaney Foundation. The event raised more than $76,000! "This is a great event," said Peter Koch, President of the Digitial Alumni Association. "It's a chance to renew old friendships and enjoy a great day of golf." He continued, "We also get a chance to raise awareness and money for a very special cause." Tricia Baglio, event organizer, also shared her thoughts on the day, "It's a great cause for a great guy! Fran Delaney and his family have been an inspiration to all of us and we join him and other families in the fight to put an end to this disease." This is the fourth annual DEC Alumni Golf Event. These events have raised more than $378,000 for ALS research. The day included golf, a wonderful live auction, lunch and an opportunity for people to join the fight to put an end to ALS. Everyone who participated in this wonderful event is truly an ALS Star! The all-volunteer Fran Delaney Foundation has now raised more than $1.4 Million for ALS research. We want to thank our event sponsors, our event leadership team, the many FDF volunteers who contributed their precious time, the Digital Alumni Association and, most of all, our friends who joined us at this very special event. |
Our campaign raises awareness and money but in the end our FDF team is all about - people! Its about saving lives, its about putting an end to this devastating disease and its about giving patients and their families - HOPE! Fran Delaney |
